Nobody here started out in art.
An interior designer. A magazine publisher. A microbiologist who still works as a nurse. A schoolteacher who spent twenty-four years running a bakery. Four people who each arrived at art from somewhere else — and never lost the pleasure of explaining it to someone who just walked in.

Three artists sharing the rooms until the end of July. The gallery shows work that runs from non-objective abstraction to figurative realism — artists selected, in the gallery's own words, for their ability to enliven the historical concept of beauty. Come and look. Nobody will ask you what you think it means.

Four people, four first careers
It began in Paris, by accident
Timothy Tew was an interior designer living in Paris when he fell into the art business. He came home and opened Galerie Timothy Tew in 1987 to show French painters. Thirty-nine years later the gallery still carries his name — and his habit of telling you what a work is doing without telling you what to think about it.
Visitors have been writing the same word about him for over a decade. John Atkins, in 2023: a “very approachable gallery owner with a wonderful collection of art in various mediums by contemporary artists.”
And nobody else started here either
Jules Bekker was a magazine VP and publisher; she now directs the gallery and runs its marketing. Corky Davis was a microbiologist and still works as a nurse. Janine Balshan taught elementary school for ten years, then spent twenty-four as a partner in Alon's bakery.
That is the whole explanation for the reviews. As Becky Mathews put it: “Timothy and Corky and Jules are all extremely knowledgeable.” Then, in the next breath — “But what truly sets them apart is how nice and friendly and engaging they each are.”
“Sophisticated art in beautiful surroundings. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and eager to help. Best gallery in Atlanta!”
4.7 out of 5, over fifteen years
“Great people and friendly ones to work with.”
“very approachable gallery owner with a wonderful collection of art in various mediums by contemporary artists.”
“A favorite among the galleries in Atlanta. Timothy is not only a collector of great artwork, he is a collector of experience and it shows through his love of life and art!”
“TEW Gallery is one of the most beautiful, innovative galleries in the USA, under the insightful guidance of owner Timothy Tew.”

Ask us anything about the work
Nobody at TEW started out in the art business, so nobody here is going to make you feel like you should already know. Call, write, or come by Tuesday afternoon when it is quiet.
